BLUE’s Student Scholarship Program

BLUE is dedicated to inspiring and nurturing the next generation of ocean filmmakers and photographers.

To that end, we will present scholarships to 10 students for the next BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit being held in Monterey, California August 24-29, 2010.

This group of scholarship recipients will be presented with student delegate passes which provides access to BLUE’s Industry Conference programs and mentoring workshops designed specifically for emerging talent.

Students will be given opportunity to gain practical insights to improve their skills and confidence in the art of underwater filmmaker or photography as well as access to conservation panels that will increase awareness and appreciation for the ocean environment. This will be accomplished through classroom and field instruction, as well as personal interaction with some of the world's best-known and highly skilled ocean filmmakers and photographers.

Mature high school and college students who demonstrate a serious interest in ocean/underwater filmmaking and photography should consider applying for one of the scholarships. Eligible students must be 16 years old by August 1, 2010.

The scholarship covers all fees related to BLUE’s Industry Conference registration and participation in the appropriate hands-on workshop. Please Note: At this time travel to and from Monterey, transportation to and from the Conference location, lodging and most food expenses are the responsibility of the student.

The scholarship program is made possible through the generous donations from individuals and BLUE’s Patron Pass Scholarship Program.

High School and College students that have a passion for the oceans and the dream of becoming a professional underwater filmmaker or photographer should apply to BLUE’s scholarship program.  Scholarships will provide recipients with the opportunity to

participate with students who are serious about becoming involved in ocean filmmaking and photography in a dedicated mentoring track throughout the festival.

Scholarship students will have the rare opportunity to network with famous professional filmmakers and photographers as well as meet major broadcast network commissioning editors from well-known channels such as Discovery and National Geographic.

These exciting life-changing experiences are available to a select group of students that are selected BLUE’s Scholarship Program.

Please Note: Scholarship students must pay for their own transportation to the BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit, but expenses for all events, filmmaking and photo instruction are covered.

BLUE spends approximately $1,000-$1,500 per student to develop and operate the scholarship programs. We invite you to make a contribution to help support this outreach initiative.

An impartial panel of evaluators from BLUE’s Advisory board will select the scholarship recipients based on their qualifications.

Selected applicants will be contacted by late-July.
