BLUE Ocean Film Festival 2015 press release

BLUE is an international non-profit organization that uses the power of film, visual arts, entertainment, and science to inspire ocean stewardship around the world.

The annual Festival has become the premier film fest for scientists, filmmakers, explorers, artists, government leaders, celebrities and ocean enterprises, providing a springboard for individual empowerment and policy action to help save Earth’s blue life support system, the 71% percent of the planet’s surface that is ocean.

Press release 02

Founded in 2009, BLUE has become internationally renowned for its unique ability to inspire public passion for ocean conservation and spark important discussions among world leaders in ocean science, conservation and exploration.

It has since become a major international platform for professional development among industry leaders, students, artists, and marine enthusiasts.

Advanced ocean technologies are showcased in concert with inspiring films, celebrity appearances, and an amazing and diverse collection of other related venues.

Monaco has become the second BLUE site after a signed partnership with the Prince Albert II Foundation and the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.

“This festival uses the power of films, photography, entertainment and science to learn, advance and initiate a durable management of our oceans throughout the world. To arouse consciousness in favor of a more concrete protection of the environment, our best tools are those that win hearts and mark our spirits,” said HSH Prince Albert.

The Partnership and Choice of Monaco for the site of BLUE2015

The Principality of Monaco was chosen as the site for the BLUE Ocean Film Festival because of their long-standing history of ocean stewardship and conservation.

The nation has one of the highest concentrations of marine science in the world. The Principality is also a champion in sustainability, with environmental statutes protecting 20% of the nation’s land area, and two protected marine areas.

The festival is a strategic partnership with Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Oceanographic Museum of Monaco

Built on the side of the mythical Rock of Monaco, the Oceanographic Museum has been watching over the oceans for over a century.

Founded by the Prince Albert I, great grandfather of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, it was designed as a Palace entirely dedicated to Art and Science.

Since its inauguration on 29 March 1910 and with more than 6,000 m2 open to the public, this Temple of the Sea has positioned itself as an international point of reference.

From the aquariums to the collections of Natural History, including the Shark Lagoon and the Turtle’s Island situated on the panoramic terrace, the Museum offers to visitors a unique learning experience to know, love and protect the oceans.
