DISNEYNATURE’S DON HAHN INTRODUCES
SCREENING OF "OCEANS"

Blue Ocean Film Festival | Monterey CA | August 24-29

Disneynature will open the BLUE Ocean Film Festival with a screening of OCEANS, which is set to open in theatres nationwide  on Earth Day - April 22, 2010. This screening, however, comes with unique insight as Jean-Francois Camilleri, executive vice president, Disneynature, personally shares the vision of the new Walt Disney Studios label with this gathering of ocean filmmakers, broadcasters and conservation leaders from around the world.

Prior to launching Disneynature, Camilleri developed local co-productions and acquisitions for Disney’s Buena Vista International (BVI) in Paris which included the Academy Award®-winning “March Of The Penguins.” Camilleri began his career in France with Warner Bros. International, joining Disney and BVI in 1990, working in the U.S. for a period, before returning to his native France.

Nearly three-quarters of the Earth’s surface is covered by water and OCEANS boldly chronicles the mysteries that lie beneath.  Directors Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud dive deep into the very waters that sustain all of mankind—exploring the harsh reality and the amazing creatures that live within.  Narrated by Pierce Brosnan and featuring spectacular never-before-seen imagery captured by the latest underwater technologies, OCEANS offers an unprecedented look beneath the sea in a powerful motion picture that unfolds on April 22, 2010. For more information, visit disney.com/oceans or become a fan on Facebook: facebook.com/Disneynature.

This special event has limited seating and will be open only to industry festival delegates and a limited amount of festival pass holders.  Passes are will be available through www.blueoceanfilmfestival.org

“This new development provides one more reason for ocean filmmakers from around the globe to travel to Monterey,” explained Debbie Kinder, founder of BLUE. “There is great interest in Disney’s vision and our festival will offer a platform for Disneynature to share that vision with the industry.”

Disney’s participation underscores the global reach of this new, Monterey-based film festival, which has drawn support from ocean leaders around the world. In addition to providing a stellar opening night experience, Disneynature has committed as a sponsor of the festival.

Through its industry awards competition, BLUE will bring to Monterey the world’s greatest collection of ocean films and filmmakers. The festival will screen more than 60 finalist films. We hope the visibility that follows the Disney brand will help us reach larger, more diverse audiences with these magnificent documentaries, “The response to EARTH clearly demonstrates the power of film to engage people in caring about the future of our planet, over 70 percent of which is covered by our oceans.”
